Nigeria Fails To Qualify For 2017 AFCON
The Super Eagles of Nigeria’s hopes of qualifying for the 2017 African Nations Cup have been dashed after they lost 1-0 to Egypt in Alexandria.
The defeat means Nigeria have failed to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations for the second successive tournament after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Egypt today, March 29, 2016.
Nigeria will have to wait till Cameronon 2019 to reach the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since they won it in 2013, after also failing to feature in the last edition held in Gabon.
Egypt return to the AFCON having missed out of the last three editions.
Ramadan Sobhy scored the only goal of the match in the 65th minute of the match rolling a shot under goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi’s arm.
The withdrawal of Chad meant all results involving them in the group stage were invalidated, though it still left the Super Eagles two points adrift of Egypt, and one ahead of Tanzania, going into Tuesday’s contest.
